Gallichan was a tall left-arm spinner, who played most of his cricket for Manawatu in the Hawke Cup from 1924-25 to 1946-47. In his first full season in the Plunket Shield, Gallichan took 10 wickets in his first three games. He was named in the squad for the 1937 tour of England and made his debut in the same series.
When Alby Roberts was injured for the second Test at Manchester, Gallichan got his chance to represent New Zealand. He scored 30 and 2 in the two innings, picked 3 wickets in the match. That was the only game he played for the Black Caps. However, on the tour, Gallichan had good first class numbers, he scalped 59 wickets at 23.94 which also included 6 for 46 against Scotland. At the fag end of the tour, he recorded his best figures 5 for 52 and 5 for 20 against Minor Counties.
During his time with Manawatu, Gallichan picked 177 wickets at 11.59 and scored 1409 at 32.76. He passed away in Taupo, aged 62.
